Health practitioners registered with a National Board
In Australia, 15 health professions are regulated through the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme. This scheme protects the public, to ensure that certain health professionals, including doctors, nurses, Aboriginal Health Practitioners and now paramedics meet the same high quality professional standard.
The 15 National Boards are:

- Chiropractic Board of Australia
- Dental Board of Australia
- Medical Board of Australia
- Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia
- Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
- Occupational Therapy Board of Australia
- Optometry Board of Australia
- Osteopathy Board of Australia
- Paramedicine Board of Australia
- Pharmacy Board of Australia
- Physiotherapy Board of Australia
- Podiatry Board of Australia
- Psychology Board of Australia
Ahpra maintains a register of all registered health practitioners. When a practitioner’s name appears on the register, you can be satisfied that they are able to practise. You can also check whether they have any limitations or any conditions placed on their practice. You can check your health practitioner’s status here.
Unregistered health practitioners
Legislation to implement the National Code of Conduct for Health Care Workers has not yet commenced in the Northern Territory. More information about the Code regime can be found here.
